Lexapro

Lexapro is an antidepressant medicine on a group of so called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). It is used to treat anxiety and major depressive disorder in adults.

How Taken

Use Lexapro as it was prescribed for you. Don't take it in larger amounts or longer than recommended for you. Take each dose with a cup of water. The general dosage is 1 tablet of Lexapro per day. For maximum benefit try to use Lexapro at the same time each day. You can take Lexapro with meal if you experience stomach pain.

Do not take Lexapro in combination with MAOI (monoamine oxidase inhibitor) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), rasagiline (Aziltec), selegiline (Emsam) or tranylcypromine (Parnate). Lexapro may be prescribed for other conditions that are not listed in this guide. Don't stop taking Lexapro if you feel better in the beginning, continue your course. Always ask your doctor about dosage changes.

Warning/Precautions

Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages, be careful if you drive a car, or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. You should inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, if you suffer from seizures or from mania and if you are allergic to any medicine, food of substances. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or breast feeding, don't take Lexapro without your doctor's approval.

Possible Side Effects

Lexapro may cause the following side effects: sleep problems (insomnia), dizziness, drowsiness, weight changes, mild nausea, gas, upset stomach, constipation, heartburn, decreased sex drive, impotence, dry mouth, yawing, ringing in the ears, chills and fewer.
